DESCRIPTION:UPDATE:  \n\n\nFor those of you planning to come to UNO’s Weeks Woods orienteering meet in Gilford\, NH this Saturday\, 11/19\, as well as for those of you still thinking about it… \n…Here is a preview of the information about the courses as provided by course setter Paul Regan. \nThe Courses\, Their Lengths\, and the Number of Controls: \nWhite: 1.5 km\, 6 controls \nYellow: 2.0 km\, 10 controls \nOrange: 2.9 km\, 12 controls \nBrown: 2.3 km\, 8 controls \nGreen: 3.7 km\, 11 controls \nRed: 4.4 km\, 14 controls \n  \nMap Scales: \nPaul intends to print the White & Yellow courses at 1:5000\, the Orange & Brown courses at 1:7500\, and the Green & Red courses at 1:10000. \nPreliminary Course Setter Notes: \nWater features are low\, vegetation boundaries have changed since the map was made (particularly the logged areas)\, and there are some smaller trails can be almost indistinct. The beginner (White) course is a typical trail walk. The advanced beginner (Yellow) course is more challenging than typical and is mostly off trail following stone walls. The intermediate (Orange) course aims to provide attack points or catching features. And the advanced courses (Brown\, Green & Red) aim to minimize the usefulness of trails.\n \nQuestions about the meet may be directed to Jon Nash at jonnash@juno.com. The weather has finally turned colder and meet administration is all outside so having more helpers will mean we can try and minimize people’s time standing in the chilly weather. Please email Jon if you can volunteer. \n\n\n\n_______________________\n \nORIENTEERING AT WEEKS WOODS on Saturday\, November 19th \nEvent Location: Weeks Woods on Route 11A (Cherry Valley Road) in Gilford\, NH \nMap: Weeks Woods and Timber Hill Farm\, 1:7500 scale\, 3 meter contour intervals \nRegister and start between 10 AM and 1 PM. Courses close at 3 PM! \nCourses: Something for everyone…Course setter Paul Regan will be setting White\, Yellow\, Orange\, Short Advanced\, Advanced courses. Electronic punching will be used.  \nCost: Cost: UNO members are free. Members of other orienteering clubs pay $5. Non-members are charged $10. Small groups of family and friends may orienteer together for one entry fee. Group members may purchase additional maps for $2 each. Family maximum of $30.  \nParking is across the street from the Weeks Woods trail head in the Gilford town offices complex parking lot. Exercise caution when crossing Route 11A. \nBeginners instruction will be available throughout the registration window. Loaner compasses and loaner dibblers (electronic punching devices) will also be available. \nA note for scouts and other groups: Please email Jon Nash\, the event contact\, in advance so we can send you our waiver and have your registration materials ready onsite. \nDirections: The Weeks Woods trailhead and parking area are on Rt. 11A in Gilford\, NH. There is no space to park at the trailhead\, so orienteers should park across the street at the Gilford town offices. 2.4 miles northeast of the interchange with Rt. 3/11 (the Laconia Bypass) and 0.5 miles southwest of the junction with Rt. 11B\, turn southeast into the entrance to the town office complex (Valley Road)\, and immediately turn left into a spacious lot adjacent to the DPW building. This is a convenient place to cross the street to the trailhead.

SUMMARY:2022 UNO annual meeting
DESCRIPTION:The UNO Annual Meeting will be held in-person on Saturday November 19th\, following the Weeks Woods event in Gilford\, NH.\nThe meeting will start about 3:30 pm.\nMeeting location is 14 Chanticleer Shores\, Gilford\, NH  03249. This is less than 4 miles (10 minute drive) from Weeks Woods.\n\nTentative agenda:\n    – Review of 2022 – events\, financials\n    – 2023 Schedule\n        – Local events – set tentative dates for multiple events – please bring your thoughts on venues and dates you’d like to help run an event. Inventory of UNO maps will be available.\n        – Boulder Dash – review key assignments\n        – Camping Weekend – Key assignments\n        – Do we want to hold a 1-day NRE in the fall of 2023?\n    – Election of Officers – I have it on good authority that the positions of at least Numero UNO (president) and UNO Dos (Vice President) are up for grabs. No experience necessary – just a willingness to organize and keep things going for the club.\n \nFeel free to bring snacks to share. Please let Jim Arsenault know if you are planning to attend (jearsenault at gmail-dot-com)\, or if you are not able to attend but would be willing to serve as a club officer and/or you would like to help host an event in 2023.
