SUMMARY:Billygoat 2019\, Burnt Mountain\, Lebanon\, NH
DESCRIPTION:Registration for the Billygoat and the Kid is now officially closed. You can no longer register on OUSA registration page. If you want to compete\, please contact the registrar directly. (unofam@aol.com)\n\nRegister before April 20th to avoid late fee (and risk not getting a well-deserved Billygoat 2019 shirt!) \nA Billygoat is a long (12 k) run requiring at least intermediate orienteering skills.  Finishing in under 3.5 hours gets you a prize. \n“The Kid” is a shorter version (6.5 k) that still requires at least intermediate orienteering skills. \nThere will be shorter courses for beginners and intermediates.  See more details for those under the Burnt Mountain events for May 12\, 2019. \nImportant Times: \nThis is the 41st annual Billygoat. The Billygoat start will be at 11:00 am. The walk to the start will depart at 10:40 am. We suggest you arrive for the Billygoat by 10:15 am. “The Kid” will have a mass start at 11:30am. The walk to the start will depart at 11:15am. We suggest you arrive for “The Kid” by 10:45 am. \nCost: \nThe cost to register for the Billygoat as an Adult is $30 which includes your finishing (under 3.5 hours)tee shirt. After April 20th\, an additional late registration surcharge of $10 applies. \nThe cost to register for the Billygoat as a Junior\, age 20 or under\, is $20 which includes your finishing (under 3.5 hours) tee shirt.  After April 20th\, an additional late registration surcharge of $10 applies. \nThe cost to register for “The Kid” is $20 as an Adult\, as a Junior (age 20 or under)- $15.  After April 20th\, an additional late registration surcharge of $5 applies. \nRegistration: \nPlease register for the Billygoat or “The Kid” at the online registration site:\nhttps://www.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a40/register/start/billygoat-2019 \nRegular registration is through April 20th.  Late Registration fees apply from April 21st until registration closes May 4th. \nThose registering for the Billygoat after April 20\, might not a T-shirt at the event\, even if you finish under 3.5 hours. Our regular registration deadline is based on when we need to confirm our T shirt order. \nCheck-In: \nOn the day of the event please check in at the Billygoat event tent so we can confirm your participation\, confirm your SI number\, and give you control descriptions (if you want).  We will also continue the Billygoat tradition of bringing your special drinks/snacks to the midway refreshment stop if you leave them at the event tent. \nVenue: \nThe event will take place on Up North Orienteering’s (UNO) Burnt Mountain map.  This map was used for the 2016 North American Orienteering Championships and the 2017 UNO “Boulderdash” National Ranking Event.  Parking and finish will be at the Nature Walk trailhead parking area in Lebanon\, NH.   (Which is different from the start locations in 2016 and 2017.)  Special thanks to the city of Lebanon\, and Dartmouth College\, which owns most of the mapped area\, for letting us have the event here.  This is an excellent map\, but it is heavily used by mountain bikers\, so new mountain bike trails may appear.  There are large cliffs\, particularly approximately 1km +/- uphill from the start/finish.  Please take note for your route choice. \nDirections: \nUse Nature Walk Trailhead\, 287 Mascoma Street\, Lebanon\, NH \nFrom I-89 in Lebanon take exit 19 to Route 4 East (Mechanic Street).  Go approximately 0.5m if coming south on I-89 (from Vermont)\, or 0.7 miles if exiting from I-89 north (from Concord or Boston).  Take a left turn on Slayton Hill Road and go under a limited height railroad bridge.  (If you have a tall vehicle\, which will not fit under the low railroad bridge\, continue on Route 4 East another 0.7 mi and make a left turn directly onto Mascoma Street.)  After going under the railroad bridge\, turn left on Mascoma Street.  Go approximately 0.5 miles (or 0.6 mi more if you turned later)\, crossing over I-89\, and immediately turning right.  (“Top Stitch Embroidery” at 233 Mascoma Street\, Lebanon\, NH is near this corner).  Park at the parking circle.  There will be orienteering road signs on Route 4 from the I-89 exits\, at the turn under the railroad bridge\, and at the event site. \nGPS coordinates: N 43 38.620 W 72 16.500 \nThe Events: \nThe Billygoat is a long mass-start orienteering event.  UNO will also offer a shorter (6+ km) mass-start orienteering event: “The Kid\,” and White/Yellow/Orange recreational orienteering courses. \nApproximate distances: \nBillygoat 12.0km (Advanced) \nThe Kid 6.5 km (Advanced) \nOrange 3.5km (Intermediate) \nYellow 2.0 km (Advance Beginner) \nWhite 1.5 km (Beginner) \nBillygoat traditions (thanks to HVO\,the 2017 BG host\, for this writeup:) \nTee Shirts: Custom designed tee shirts will\, as at all BGs\, be awarded to all who finish within 3 ½ hours. A central tradition of the BG has always been that the 3:30 limit is ruthlessly enforced. If you hear people at the finish yelling at you to run\, give it all you’ve got. \nForked Control: There is one forked control. Both controls are shown on the map; you choose which fork to visit (you may also choose this as your skipped control; see below). Both controls have identical control descriptions\, so you will not be able to tell from the clue sheet which control is the forked one. \nSkipped Control: One of the primary BG traditions. You may skip one and only one control (this goes for “The Kid” as well). This can be any control. You may skip the first control\, the last control\, the control before or after the forked control or the forked control itself\, or any other control. But only one. Choose wisely. \nFollowing: Another key tradition. Following is explicitly allowed. \nSaeger Loop: This is a short loopy section with a deliberate dogleg in an area of good visibility. This will allow you a good look at who is 3 to 4 minutes ahead of you and who is 3 to 4 minutes behind you. \nControl Codes: Keeping with tradition\, control codes correspond to the initials of the top  finishers of last year’s BG. \nClub Award: The Club Award is given based solely on the judgment of the Head Goat and using criteria not announced\, though in the past club spirit\, enthusiasm\, and perhaps most importantly bribery–which like following is explicitly allowed–have been notable features. \nAnd the Central Billygoat Tradition: Have fun! \nSafety: \nYou must check in at the finish even if you do not complete the course.  The safety bearing for the event is south (downhill) to the registration/finish area. \nRestrooms: \nThere will be porta-potties at the registration/finish location.  No porta-potties at the start. \nSpecial Thanks to: \nLex Bundschuh – Registrar\, Recreational courses\, Course consultant/Vetting \nPaul Regan – Course consultant/Vetting\, Shirt procurement \nGrace Baily – Tee Shirt Design \nUNO day-of-event volunteers \n  \nThanks also to you for joining us\, \nPete Bundschuh – Head Goat 2019 \nunofam@aol.com \n(603) 321-7163

DESCRIPTION:So that enough maps can be printed please reply to pgwolfe66@gmail.com with the courses that you wish to run.  \nThe O-Ringen in Wolfeboro will consist of four separate legs\, two sprints and two middle distances. There will be three “levels” of courses. One is set to Yellow standards and has a total distance of about 5 km. Half an hour later\, there will be a chase start for the top ten in the other two classes. \nA spectator control is planned for this last leg of the event. A grill will be available for cooking.
