Portsmouth Urban Forestry Center

ORIENTEERING at the PORTSMOUTH URBAN FORESTRY CENTER
on Saturday, November 4th,2023

The Portsmouth Urban Forestry Center is a very beginner friendly location and a
wonderful park for those newer to the sport to work on their orienteering
skills. It is a great example of how orienteers can enjoy the sport in a
smaller, more urban location.

Event Location: Portsmouth Urban Forestry Center, 27 Elwyn Rd., in Portsmouth,
NH

Map: Portsmouth Urban Forestry Center, 1:7500 scale, 3 meter contour intervals

Register and start between 10:30 AM and 1 PM. Courses close at 3 PM!

Courses:Currently, the course offerings are slated to be White
(Beginner), Yellow (Advanced Beginner), Orange (Intermediate), Short Advanced
and either another, bit longer, Advanced course or a Score Course. Electronic
punching will likely be used.

Cost: UNO members are free. Non-members adults are charged $10;
Non-member juniors $5. Small groups of family and friends may orienteer
together for one entry fee. Group members may purchase additional maps for
$2each. Family maximum of $30.

Parking is in the Urban Forestry parking lot. Follow directional arrows
and watch out for walkers and other users of the park. Registration is in the
building at the southern end of the parking lot.

Beginners instruction will be available. Loaner compasses and loaner
dibblers (electronic punching devices) will also be available.

A note for scouts and other groups: Please email Jon Nash, the event contact, in
advance so we can send you our waiver and have your registration materials
ready onsite.

CAN YOU HELP AT THE EVENT? It would be greatly appreciated and volunteers will
have the opportunity of orienteering, too. If you would like to help at the

Directions:The Portsmouth Urban Forestry Center is located at 27 Elwyn Rd.
in Portsmouth. From the Portsmouth Traffic Circle go South on the US-1Bypass
for 2.2 miles (it becomes Lafayette Rd. at the 1.4 mile mark)to the
intersection with Elwyn Rd. Make a left on to Elwyn Rd.Proceed 0.2 miles to
the Urban Forestry Center driveway on your left.
