Pawtuckaway State Park- Camping Weekend Updated July 14, 2023

This weekend will have all the Camping Weekend experiences that you have come to expect. Pre-registration saves you money! Please visit Event Reg for details, costs and to register for all events including camping and dinner. NOTE: There will be an extra $5.00 fee per race  (even for UNO Members) for arriving at Pawtuckaway to register in-person. Pre-registration via Event Reg closes on Tuesday, September 5 at 11 p.m. 

If you are an UNO Member, you should have received a Coupon Code for a discount ($10 for 1 day and $20 for 2 days of orienteering). If you have not received this, please contact Lex.

The Orienteering

• Map Scale (subject to change)- 1:7500 for SW/W/Y/Tan/Brown  1:10000 for Orange/Green/Red/ Blue. Contour Interval 5m.
• E punching will be used for all regular orienteering courses, including WHNO. SI air will not be enabled.
• Pin punching for Canoe-O and Vampire O

Saturday- Classical Length Courses. JJ Cote Course Setter: Orange/Tan (UNO’s version of a shorter Brown)/ Brown/ Green/ Red/ Blue.
Lex and Pete Bundschuh: SW/W/Y.

• Orange/Tan/Br/Gr/Red/Blue courses will have a remote start, finish, and download, requiring driving from the pavilion- to the park entrance. Further details to follow. Preliminary course information, subject to change.

• SW/W/Y- start, finish and download at pavilion.

Saturday Starts: 10-1:00.

• • Remote Start (Orange, Tan, Brown, Green, Red, Blue)
    • A person will be at the start with maps, map cases and control descriptions.
    • If you pre-registered, your name will be on the start list.
    • If you register the day of the event, you will need to take to the start, a card from registration: with name, e-punch number and course
  • Short White/ White/ Yellow-
    • Get your maps from registration- at the pavilion.
    • If you pre-registered, your name will be on the registration list.
    • If you register the day of the event, you will be given a card from registration with name, e-punch number and course. Hand this in to get your map.
  • Clear and check will be at the starts.
  • Make sure you punch the Start Box prior to starting and the Finish Box when you finish.
  • Please report to the Finish by 4:00, even if you don’t complete your course, and to the download station by 4:15.

Sunday- Middle Length Courses- Danny Riley Course Setter: Orange, Tan, Brown, Green, Red, Blue.
Lex and Pete Bundschuh: SW/W/Y (regular courses)

Orange and advanced courses will be Middle Distance format-shorter with more controls. Preliminary course information, subject to change.

There is very little overlap with the Blue course and the other courses, lending to the opportunity to do 2 relatively unique courses. Please sign up for your preliminary course on Event Reg. You can sign up and pay (Non-UNO Members- $5.00;  UNO Members- free) for a 2nd course on site.                                                             

Sunday Starts 9-12:00

• • Short White, White, Yellow: at the pavilion
  • Orange/Tan/ Br/Gr/ Red/ Bl: about a 300 meter walk out the camping road, across the main road and up the big trail (route will be streamered- out the parking lot). There will not be someone at the start
  • Get your maps from registration at the pavilion.
  • If you pre-registered, your name will be on the registration list.
  • If you register the day of the event, you will be given a card from registration with name, e-punch number and course. Hand this in to get your map.
• Clear and check will be at the starts.
• Make sure you punch the Start Box prior to starting and the Finish Box when you finish.
• Finish and Download: All courses at pavilion
• Please report to the Finish by 2:00, even if you don’t complete your course, and to the download station by 2:15.

The Camping

• Group Camping area Friday and Saturday nights. This is where the event center is located.
• Cost: $10 per adult and $5 per child (6- 17 years) per night.
• Register on Event Reg. Your name will be on a list for the State Park.
• These sites are in the woods around the Group Camping Pavilion (the event center). You can drive your car near your site to unload and then park in the parking lot. If you have a camper or pop-up, or want to stay somewhere else in the park, please contact Reserve America directly (1-877-647-2757, or through the NH State Parks web site).
• Bathrooms are on site. Showers are a short drive.
• Of course, you can also come for one or both days without camping. The Park will  charge their usual day use fee for non-campers.

The Dinner: Michelle and Darrell Scott

• UNO Camping Weekend has a Saturday Night Pot Luck tradition. The meet organizers will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and dessert- the traditional smores (condiments, plates, cups and plastic ware, too). Everyone is asked to bring the potluck fare to share. Last names letters: A-L: please bring an appetizer; letters M-Z: please bring a salad. Everyone: BYO beverages.

• 5:45 Dinner

Canoe-O: Pete and Lex Bundschuh, updated map by Jim Arsenault

• Saturday: Starts 10:00-4:00; off the water by 5:00
• Sunday: Starts: 8:00-1:00; off the water by 2:00
• 60 minutes time limit (score-O format).
• Controls are Blue and Yellow streamer tape with a pin punch.
• Self-serve. Sign out/ sign in/ record time and score on poster at pavilion.
• Start and finish at pavilion (time is from when you leave to when you return to the start)- with boats at canoe launch nearby.
• Bring your canoe/ kayak, rent one nearby or wait to borrow one.
• Same course all weekend.

Vampire-O: Countess Tracey and Count Steve Olafsen

• Join this now famous family-friendly night-time event. Vampire-O is a blend of flashlight tag, orienteering, and fun!
• 45 minutes score O format
• Bring a watch and headlamp/ flashlight
• 7:30 Gather at pavilion
• 7:45 Mass start

“Wicked Hard Night-O” and “Not-So-Wicked Hard Night-O”: Jim Arsenault

• You should be able to comfortably complete advanced courses (Brown/higher) in daylight, and must have two independent lights. Due to timing, you can’t do this and Vampire O.
• 8:10 Gather at pavilion
• 8:20 Walk to start for mass start

Safety

• Bring a whistle
• No water on courses or at starts. Bring your own if you want some.
• Make sure you clear and check your e-punch (SI Stick) prior to starting.
• Use (punch) the start box to start your course.
• Make sure you download (check in) at the results area/ computer station – even if you do not finish your course
• If you have a cold/ fever/ or are not feeling well, please stay home. If you let us know prior to the event, we will refund your fees.

Dogs/ Other Pets: Sorry, not allowed in the park.
